The main subject of interest on Friday afternoon was the new Californian regulations for formaldehyde monitoring. Prof. Rainer Marutzky outlined related legislation and the associated requirements worldwide. Other speakers reported on the results of their formaldehyde testing and on the manufacture of boards with low emission potential.

In the breaks and at the evening reception arranged by Sasol Wax in the Indian ceremonial room at Hannover Zoo, attendees had an opportunity to discuss their questions with experts from the research and industrial sectors.

The Fraunhofer Institute for Wood Research was founded in Braunschweig in 1946. In close cooperation with mid-sized companies from the wood and furniture sector and also the supplier industries it performs both current and future-oriented tasks which aim at securing optimum utilization of wood and other renewable raw materials as well as improving the quality of manufactured products; this also includes the aspects of gluing, surface treatment, wood preservation and emissions.

The European Panel Federation has represented the European manufacturers of particle boards, MDF and OSB since 1999 when it took over the duties of the FESYP (European Federation of Particle-Board Manufacturer Associations, founded in 1958) and of the Euro MDF Board (the European Association of MDF Manufacturers, founded in 1986).
