Brunswick, March 10th 2003

Last Friday at the Fraunhofer-Institut für Holzforschung, Wilhelm-Klauditz-Institut (WKI) in Braunschweig the ceremonial signature of the cooperation contract between the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft and the Fachhochschule Braunschweig/Wolfenbüttel (FH) took place. The focal point of this cooperation will be the formation of experts in the course of study in environmental technique. At the same time Dr. Tunga Salthammer, head of the department Chemical Technology and Environmental Research at the WKI, was offered a professorship at the Fachhochschule in Wolfenbüttel. He herewith exercises one of the first professorships for indoor hygiene in Germany in the course of study in environmental technique of the faculty of supply technique.

Prof. Dr. Wolf-Rüdiger Umbach, president of the academy and Prof. Dr. Rainer Marutzky, director of the WKI, appreciated explicitly the future enhanced cooperation which, besides the education of the students, shall comprise common research projects.

By the professorship for indoor hygiene of Dr. Salthammer the academy enlarges the scope of studies in the field of supply technique. In Germany, the subject indoor hygiene gained in significance owing to the research activities of the Fraunhofer-Institute, and correspondingly strong is the demand for well-trained experts. As a matter of fact, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Benno Lendt, dean of the faculty of supply technique, also put a strong emphasis on this circumstance.

Dr. Tunga Salthammer took his doctorate in 1990 in physical chemistry at the Technical University in Braunschweig followed by a position as scientist in the department Chemical Technology and Environmental Research at the Wilhelm-Klauditz-Intitut. In 1995 he became the head of this department. Since the summer semester of 1999 Dr. Salthammer is lecturer at the academy in Wolfenbüttel. In July 2002 he was elected a member of the International Academy for Indoor Air Science.
